The 10th jubilee edition of Serbia Fashion Week comes with the most outstanding lineup yet! A fashion show unlike anything that was ever seen in the region, traditional fashion awards and the performance of the most popular French chanteuse at the moment – Laure Préchac, are completed with an exclusive fashion show by a true icon of fashion, Thierry Mugler, on April 29th at the Serbian National Theatre.
Thierry Mugler, a revolutionary designer and a beloved choice of superstars such as Diana Ross, David Bowie, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Liza Minnelli, Celine Dion, and others, will make his debut in Serbia during Serbia Fashion Week, displaying his legendary haute couture collection. His work is best known for a radical use of the most unexpected materials in a way that is equally glamorous as it is futuristic. He presents the woman as a superhero, with exaggerated shoulders, an elegant silhouette, and clean lines. Metal, faux fur, and latex can rarely be seen in haute couture, but Thierry Mugler plays with them with great ease. Mugler’s spectacular shows from the 90s are still a hot topic in the fashion world. His claim to fame also rests on the versatility of his craft – he is the man behind the video for George Michael’s “Too Funky”, and a series of short films starring Isabelle Huppert i Juliette Binoche.
The closing ceremony of Serbia Fashion Week will be directed by member of the French Haute Couture institute and Vice-President of Serbia Fashion Week, Eymeric François. François worked with Mugler from 1997. to 1999. The choreography will be inspired by the golden age of haute couture in Paris – the 80s and 90s, when supermodels were superstars. The models’ hair will be styled by Frederic Pavard of Alexandre de Paris, a legendary hair stylist who has worked with renowned fashion houses such as Chanel, Yves Saint-Laurent, Givenchy, Christian Dior, Pierre Balmain, Jean-Paul Gaultier and Thierry Mugler for over 40 years.
Serbia Fashion Week will be held April 24.-29. at five locations around Novi Sad, which will get to represent fashion in their own unusual way. The grand opening of Serbia Fashion Week will be held in Dunavski Park, and alternative couture will take over the Kineska Četvrt former industrial complex, in SKC Fabrika. The fashion runways will, as always, be held at the Congress Center Master of Novi Sad Fair, while the closing ceremony will be held at the Serbian National Theatre.
The Serbia Fashion Week opening ceremony will be what design dreams are made of – 150 models will be dressed in outfits by designers from 30 different countries, and among them, the most significant global, regional, and local brands. Serbia Fashion Week will reward its Novi Sad community, as well as regional and European fashionistas, with a night to remember. Dunavski Park will remain open for all, transformed into one of the largest fashion runways in Europe, illuminated by special effects and magical scenery. The synergy of fashion and other arts will be represented at a special exhibit at the Gallery “Matica Srpska”, and the closing and fashion awards ceremonies will take place in the Serbian National Theatre.
